Western premiers may witness less fire and fury than they expected at this week’s Western premiers conference in Yellowknife. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley won’t be attending the meeting, which was to get under way with an informal event on Tuesday night. Notley has been locked in a months-long battle with B-C Premier John Horgan over his opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, and Kinder Morgan has given everyone involved until month’s end to figure things out. Her spokeswoman says Notley will stay in Alberta to complete a deal to secure the pipeline’s construction. Notley tweeted last night it would be “exceptionally tone deaf” to believe polite discussion would possible when one party is trying to — quote — “choke the economic lifeblood of the province and the country.
