Ombudsperson Jay Chalke’s annual report says his office received 84-hundred complaints over the past year from people dissatisfied with their treatment by provincial and local government. The report says two B-C government ministries servicing the province’s most vulnerable residents are responsible for a 10-year peak in complaints to the provincial advocate. The report says the majority of the complaints were aimed at the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Chalke says there are recommendations from his office dating back to 2009 to reduce regulations for people with disabilities or barriers to employment, but they have yet to be implemented by the province.
