Some residents in Port Hardy woke up to some slight shaking early this morning, when a magnitude 4-point-8 earthquake struck off the coast. Natural Resources Canada says the quake was centred about 200 kilometres west of the north Vancouver Island community and struck just after 6 a-m. There are no reports of damage. Earthquake scientist Taimi Mulder says the quake is part of the normal pattern of earthquakes in the area and is not of concern, but serves as a good reminder to be prepared for a bigger one.
