Members of Parliament return to Ottawa for the final sitting of the House of Commons ahead of an election year with a general vote coming next fall. Nailing down trade agreements will likely play a big part in the fall sitting, as the Trudeau government expects to work to pass legislation to implement the Trans-Pacific trade deal while continuing to negotiate an updated NAFTA pact with our continental neighbours. The governing Liberals can also expect battles with the opposition parties over Ottawa’s multi-billion dollar purchase of the Trans Mountain pipeline project, which the Conservatives complain is stalled and New Democrats don’t want built at all.
