Elections B-C is responding to calls that it raise the profile of local elections, as some politicians sound the alarm over what they suspect will be a record low voter turn out in next month’s municipal elections. Between much stricter fundraising rules and an election day moved up by a month some candidates feel they don’t have enough time to campaign or enough money to raise their profile. Unfortunately, Elections B-C spokesman Andrew Watson says it’s easier said than done. He says municipal elections are administered locally and it would require legislative change to give Elections B-C a mandate to educate the public about those elections in the same way it does during provincial campaigns.
