Premier John Horgan has announced the maximum allowable rent increase next year has been cut to 2.5 per cent. That’s down from the 4.5 per cent announced earlier this month under a formula introduced by the previous Liberal government that set annual allowable rent increases at inflation plus two per cent. Horgan says the N-D-P government is limiting the increase to the rate of inflation — a move recommended by the province’s rental housing task force on Monday. The premier says the province will continue to consult with landlords in an effort to boost the supply of affordable housing in B-C.
