High-profile developer Tony Harris has been named as the Liberal candidate in a not-yet-called byelection in Nanaimo. The party is hoping the son of late car dealership and mobile phone mogul Tom Harris can take the N-D-P stronghold following the resignation of long-time M-L-A Leonard Krog after he won the mayoral race in the city last month. If Harris wins an upset in the riding, it would leave the Liberals with 43 seats in the legislature — the same as the N-D-P-Green Party alliance. In cases of a tie vote, the Speaker of the legislature — currently independent M-L-A Darryl Plecas — casts the deciding vote.
