The union representing Canada’s postal workers is still awaiting a response from both Canada Post and the federal government. On its website last night, CUP-W says it believes the counter-offer it provided the corporation Saturday night could form the basis for a negotiated collective agreement. The union is waiting to hear Canada Post’s thoughts on the proposal, and is also awaiting an answer from the labour minister about appointing a mediator to help work things out. A month of crippling rotating postal strikes drags on this morning, amid calls by the Retail Council of Canada and e-Bay for the federal government to table back-to-work legislation so a massive backlog of packages can be cleared.
