The R-C-M-P says it had to call the Coast Guard to help arrest the operator of a fishing boat travelling in circles on the water north of Port Hardy. Police say they began searching for the vessel after receiving reports on November 29th of a fishing boat being operated in an erratic manner in the port. They eventually tracked it down circling in the same spot on the open water and the Coast Guard helped take to officers out to the vessel. It was boarded in a difficult manoeuvre after the operator remained slumped at the wheel even when the Coast Guard vessel blew its horn — and police say the man was found to be extremely intoxicated and has since been arrested for impaired operation of a vessel.
