All three of British Columbia’s major parties have declared candidates in an upcoming byelection in Nanaimo, setting the stage for Premier John Horgan to name a date for the vote. The New Democrats confirmed yesterday that member of Parliament Sheila Malcolmson will be their candidate to replace Leonard Krog, who vacated the seat after being elected mayor of the city. Local businessman Tony Harris is running for the Liberals, and retired teacher Michele Ney won the Green party nomination on Saturday. It could be a dramatic race, as the New Democrats and Greens together hold only one more seat than the Opposition Liberals in the B.C. legislature.
