More than 300-thousand people are without electricity in parts of Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and on the Sunshine Coast. Strong winds battered the southern coast toppling trees and downing power lines yesterday. Uprooted trees, snapped power lines and debris also forced the closure of several streets and highways along the southern coast. A person who was stranded on a pier in White Rock needed to be rescued by helicopter after part of the structure collapsed in strong winds.
