A researcher at the B-C Centre for Disease Control says the influenza epidemic is on the downslope in B-C, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still get a flu shot. Doctor Danuta Skowronski says people in B-C and Alberta got sick early this season, while areas in Eastern Canada were hit later and may not have reached their peak. But she warns there will still be activity for several more weeks. Research published online in the journal Euro Surveillance suggests this season’s vaccine against H-1-N-1 is very effective, reducing the risk of infection by the dominant circulating strain by more than 70 per cent.
