Environment Canada has lifted extreme cold and arctic outflow warnings for most of central B-C, but the north and central coasts, as well as the eastern edge of the province continue to shiver in the bitter weather. Environment Canada says, with the wind chill, temperatures in parts of B-C could feel as cold as minus-45 by tonight while intense cold and strong outflow winds have also created frigid conditions in Whistler, Howe Sound and the Fraser Valley. B-C Hydro says the wintry blast could produce a leap in power consumption — with a peak electricity load expected between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., as people arrive home from work. Bitterly cold conditions are expected to continue todaybut the weather office says the deep freeze should ease by mid-week.
