The provincial government is heeding a call from three independent watchdogs for sweeping changes to restore public confidence in the legislature. The information and privacy commissioner, merit commissioner and ombudsperson all issued a letter today saying it’s time to bring in modern transparency and accountability rules to monitor the legislature and its officials. Solicitor General Mike Farnworth says the government will work with the watchdogs to implement reforms. The promised changes follow the release of a report alleging massive spending abuses by two top officials at the legislature before they were suspended late last year.
