Voters head to the polls today in three federal byelections. Empty House of Commons seats will be filled from B-C’s Burnaby South riding, Ontario’s York-Simcoe riding and Quebec’s Outremont riding. Pundits will be closely watching the race in Burnaby South where the stakes are high for N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh. The 40-year-old former Ontario legislator is looking to grab his first seat in Parliament since becoming party leader in late 2017. The Montreal-area riding of Outremont has been N-D-P since former party leader Tom Mulcair won a 2007 byelection, but he stepped down last August. And York-Simcoe riding north of Toronto has been vacant since September 30th when longtime Conservative M-P Peter van Loan quit to practise law again.
