A total of 137 B-C firefighters and wildfire specialists are on their way to Alberta today and tomorrow, to assist with several major fires threatening communities north of Edmonton. The 116 firefighters and a 21-person incident management team will be deployed in Alberta for up to 19 days bolstering a contingent of more than 260, many of whom are due to return to B-C later this week. Meanwhile, six firefighters and one fire camp manager have arrived in Yukon from B-C, to assist with blazes there — although fire officials in Yukon say no new fires were sparked yesterday as cooler, damp weather offers a slight reprieve. The B-C Wildfire Service says, even with resources on loan, B-C has ample protection should any fire suddenly break out here.
