Oral hearings are set to begin on Wednesday in a public inquiry into British Columbia’s steep and variable gas prices. A panel chaired by B-C Utilities Commission C-E-O David Morton will question several oil and gas companies about access to the Trans Mountain pipeline, refineries and other factors that may be at play over the course of up to four days. Premier John Horgan called the inquiry in May, when prices at the pump reached a-dollar-70 per litre on the Lower Mainland. Opponents have blamed the B-C government’s opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline for the spiking prices, while some analysts have pointed restricted capacity at American refineries as the primary culprit.
