The BC Conservation Officer Service says a hiker in the remote backcountry north of Powell River has been badly injured in a bear attack. The service says the man from Quadra Island reported he was on a solo trip when he was attacked by what seemed to be a grizzly. It says in a statement that the man was carrying a knife that he used to stab the bear and scare it off. The service says he managed to find a work camp and was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
