There have been some positive developments at the slide site in the Fraser River that has been blocking all but the strongest salmon from getting up river to spawn. An update from the information team says a helicopter has been able to long-line sections of a fish ladder at the base of the cliff adjacent to the slide but some rock work will need to be done before the ladder can be assembled. The team is evaluating a new method to catch more fish for transfer up river, using traditional First Nations dip netting techniques. Road construction is also underway to the remote site, and once it’s complete this week, it will increase transportation operations as flatbeds and rock trucks are converted to carry salmon in holding tanks.
