The Comox Valley RCMP has been working to grab the attention of drivers as they pass through school zones by handing out drawings done by local children. The “Think of Me” campaign is a partnership between the Comox Valley RCMP, ICBC, and School District 71. Children at our local schools have taken the time to draw a picture for drivers to remind them of the possible dire consequences of speeding and distracted driving. On the back of the drawing is a printed message from the RCMP and ICBC, reminding drivers to put their phones away and slow down. The Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section and Frontline members have been handing these drawings out to drivers as they pass through school zones. “The impact on drivers has been obvious and it is because the message is coming from our local children” said Cst. Hayley Turkington, Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section. “but the impact is actually two-fold because our children, our future drivers, are thinking about road safety as they draw these pictures” she added. This campaign will continue in the Comox Valley until the end of November.
