Protesters opposed to the Coastal GasLink pipeline in northern B-C disrupted events at the legislature on Tueasday ahead of the government’s throne speech. Hundreds of protesters blocked entrances to the building, chanting “Shame” as politicians tried to enter the building with help from security. Shaylynn Sampson says she and other demonstrators plan to remain outside the legislature until the province agrees to pressure the R-C-M-P and Coastal GasLink to withdraw from Wet’suwet’en (wet-SOO’-wet-en) traditional territories in northern B-C. Demonstrations have sprung up across Canada since the R-C-M-P began enforcing a court injunction last week against Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs who have been blocking construction of the pipeline in Houston.
