B-C now has seven cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases across Canada to 11. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the seventh case is a man in his 40s who is a close contact of the sixth case, a woman in her 30s who returned to Canada from Iran just over a week ago. Both the man and the woman remain in isolation at home in the Fraser Health Region east of Vancouver. Henry says health officials hope the new coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, will be similar to influenza and other respiratory viruses that circulate during winter and typically wane in early spring.
