Health Minister Adrian Dix has announced a plan to increase health-care capacity to address the backlog of surgeries worsened by COVID-19 restrictions. But he says it could still take two years to tackle the waiting list that has grown to 93-thousand patients with the addition of 30-thousand during the pandemic. Dix says the province plans to hire additional staff, expand hours including weekend surgeries, open new and unused spaces, and turn to private clinics. He says surgical services will resume May 18th and all existing operating rooms should be running at full capacity by mid-June.
