A coalition of Canadian groups, including SkeenaWild, Watershed Watch Salmon Society and Raincoast Conservation, hope to meet with Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy to discuss B-C-bound sockeye being caught in Alaskan nets. The groups have written to Dunleavy saying Alaskan fishing boats scooped up 650-thousand B-C sockeye last year, leaving barely 100-thousand for Canadians. They hope Dunleavy will accept some of their proposals which include moving Alaskan boats to inside waters, away from the path of sockeye migrating to B-C rivers. The groups also say the Pacific Salmon Treaty was written to address key issues like interceptions and overfishing, but has not resolved the problems.
