Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has tabled the government’s latest budget, with a 40-billion-dollar deficit that’s the lowest in the G-7. The budget promises 59.5-billion-dollars in new spending over the next five years — notably on the green economy and health care. It also offers up some affordability measures to help Canadians dealing with high prices from inflation. Meanwhile, government departments are being told to cut around three per cent of their spending across the board. Freeland says they’ll also cut spending on consultants and government travel.
