The B-C government’s new tentative contract with the nurses union aims to recruit, retain and lower the ratio of nurses to patients, a practice that is a first in Canada. Health Minister Adrian Dix says the tentative agreement will make B-C a place nurses want to come to and stay. On top of the wages and benefits in the contract announced over the weekend, the government will spend 750 million dollars over three years to improve the nurse-to-patient ratio. B-C’s 48-thousand unionized workers start voting on the contract on April 20th.
