A new deal has been struck between WestJet and its pilots union, avoiding a holiday weekend work stoppage. The agreement-in-principle came just ahead of a planned early Friday morning walkout by the Air Line Pilots Association. Bernard Lewall, who heads the union’s WestJet contingent, says the contract delivers on the goals of better job security, enhanced compensation, and more flexible schedules to allow for a better work–life balance. He says a membership vote will begin in the coming days.
