The B-C Ministry of Agriculture will help struggling farmers and ranchers as wildfires and floods in Western Canada create extreme shortages in feed for animals. The ministry says a new access-to-feed plan will connect farmers and those growing the hay or grain. The provincial government will also provide financial help through the federal-provincial AgriStability program, where registered farmers will be able to access grants to pay for the added cost of feed. Rancher Suzanne Fradette owns a herd of 140 head and she says her bill for hay is going to be about 100-thousand dollars this year — about 30 per cent higher compared with other years.
