B-C officials say the worst for the wildfire season is over but a lot of work remains because several large fires continue to burn across the province.
The Wildfire Service says 481 fires are still burning across B-C — but that’s down from over 550 fires at the height of wildfire season, and not many new fires are starting on a daily basis.
Fire information officer Kevin Skrepnek says cooler weather is definitely helping and campfire bans in effect across the province could be lifted soon if the province gets rain — which is forecast to begin Saturday for the next few days in Prince George, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Kelowna and Grand Forks.
But smoke from the remaining fires in the province and Washington state is still an issue, with an air quality advisory in effect for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
