The province is boosting fines for the illegal use of off-road vehicles and snowmobiles in environmentally sensitive habitats to 575-dollars. It says the those areas included all B-C Parks and southern mountain caribou habitats. Court convictions for snowmobiling in southern mountain caribou habitats also may result in a fine up to 200-thousand dollars and six months imprisonment. The province says previous fines of up to 345 dollars did not reflect the impact of illegal off-road vehicle and snowmobile traffic on sensitive habitats and species in British Columbia.
