The provincial government has released a plan to dramatically cut pollution as it builds a low-carbon economy. Its key planks include a requirement that every new building constructed in the province be net-zero energy by 2032, and that every new car sold in B-C be a zero-emission vehicle by 2040. The plan introduced by Premier John Horgan and Green Leader Andrew Weaver also includes reducing 95 per cent of organic waste to be diverted from landfills and turned into other products. Horgan says the province wants to make shifts in homes, vehicles and industry to move away from burning fossil fuels and towards a cleaner approach to meet the challenges of climate change such as wildfires and floods.
