R-C-M-P say they receive reports of scams throughout the year and are encouraging the public to take steps to prevent them. In a news release, Corporal Dennis Hwang says if a deal seems too good to be true, it’s likely a scam. He says if you are unsure of a text message you receive or a listing for things like apartments or pets, ask for a second opinion. Try to do as much homework as you can about something you’re planning to purchase or rent, he says, and be aware that law enforcement and authorities will never ask for payment to avoid an investigation
