It’s Tsunami Preparedness Week, and that has the Public Safety Ministry reminding residents of coastal B-C to be ready for that risk. The annual week in April is meant to prepare people living in earthquake- and tsunami-prone areas to plan ahead for a possible disaster. Parliamentary secretary for emergency preparedness Jennifer Rice says it’s well known that B-C is a seismically active zone so residents should have emergency plans and earthquake kits at the ready. Rice is expected to attend a tsunami awareness event in Prince Rupert this week where people will participate in high-ground hikes so they’ll be prepared to get out of harm’s way during an emergency.
