After a four-year respite from 40 years of Tory rule, Alberta is firmly back under Conservative power with last night’s inaugural election victory by Jason Kenney’s new United Conservative Party. The merged party of the Progressive Conservatives and the Wildrose party won a majority government in Alberta’s election. Outgoing N-D-P leader Rachel Notley, this country’s only remaining female premier, retained her own seat of Edmonton-Strathcona. Notley says she accepts the decision of voters and wishes Kenney well — and vows to stay on to lead her party in Opposition.
