B-C Wildfire Service is sending 267 personnel to Alberta to help with an increasing wildfire threat in the province. It says it’s deploying 230 firefighters and other personnel tomorrow and Thursday to B-C’s eastern neighbour, where four larger fires are currently burning, including an 80-thousand hectare fire that has forced the evacuation of five-thousand people in the town of High Level. The wildfire service says enough personnel will remain in the province to respond to any fire activity in B-C and deployed crews can be recalled at any time. It adds Alberta provided B-C invaluable assistance during the last two wildfire seasons, which were the worst in the province’s history.
