Health Minister Adrian Dix says nearly 16 thousand youths received the measles vaccine in the first two months of a new immunization catch-up campaign. Dix says the nearly 16-thousand immunizations of children from kindergarten through Grade 12 in April and May is a “dramatic increase” over the same periods in previous years. The voluntary program was introduced following a measles outbreak in the province linked to two French schools in Vancouver. The goal is to immunize students who have not previously been vaccinated against measles or who may not have received both recommended doses.
