The B-C Coroners Service has released new data showing there was a slight decline in suicide deaths in 2017. The service says a total of 572 British Columbians took their own life that year — down slightly from the previous three years when there were more than 600 deaths by suicide. A spokesman says males continue to be overrepresented in the data, making up about three in every four suicide deaths. The data also shows more than half of those who took their own life were aged 30 to 59 and four per cent were children or youths.
