The B-C Coroners Service says a decrease in illegal drug overdose deaths in October is a promising trend, but the crisis is far from over. It says there were 69 suspected overdose deaths in October — down 42 per cent from the same month last year. But it says paramedics in the province still responded to more than 20-thousand overdose calls between January and October where chances of survival are 99 per cent. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe warns drug users they need to remain cautious about an unpredictable and toxic drug supply and not use illicit substances when they’re alone.
