U-S President Donald Trump says American troops are staying in Iraq, even if the government follows though on a nonbinding resolution calling for the expulsion of the foreign forces. The bill approved by Iraq’s parliament follows the U-S targeted killing of a top Iranian general near Baghdad’s airport on Friday, which Iraq has called an attack on its national sovereignty. Trump is also threatening to demand billions of dollars in compensation from Iraq or impose — quote — “sanctions like they’ve never seen before” if it goes through with expelling U-S troops.
