Comox Strathcona Waste Management will once again be holding it’s Annual Pumpkin Smash. Waste Management Educator Elaine Jansen says it’s a safe and organic way to dispose of your jack-o’-lanterns. She says the reason the CVRD hosts the Pumpkin Smash is to keep our organic waste out of the landfill and into community compost. The family event is being held at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex on November 5th and 6th from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you would like to bring pumpkins that have not been carved and are still edible, you can bring them in to be donated to the soup kitchen. Those you can not make it to the Pumpkin smash are asked to cut up you jack-o’-lanterns into small pieces and either put them into a backyard compost bin or in your organic pickup.
