As protests and rail blockades continue across the country, B-C’s Indigenous Relations Minister Scott Fraser says he’s hoping for a peaceful pause while some of the underlying issues can be discussed. Fraser and Carolyn Bennett, the federal minister of Crown-Indigenous relations, say they want to meet with the Wet’suwet’en hereditary clan chiefs whose opposition to a natural gas pipeline sparked the solidarity actions. A date has not been set and Fraser said last night he has not heard back from the chiefs after sending a letter. He says discussions can take a long time and he hopes for a period of calm while dialogue can unfold.
