Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office says he spoke with Canada’s premiers on a conference call about the importance of ending railway blockades as quickly as possible and reaching a peaceful and lasting solution. Trudeau is said to have highlighted the close collaboration between Ottawa and the B-C government and committed to continue working with all the premiers to resolve the situation. The statement from his office says the P-M also noted the R-C-M-P offer to withdraw its operations from Wet’suwet’en (wet-SOO’-wet-en) territory and the ongoing offer made by Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett to meet with hereditary chiefs. It also says Trudeau highlighted the need for Canada’s railroad system to be fully functional and his government is looking at its options to resolve the current interruptions given the impact on the economy.
