The B-C government plans to bring in legislation to prevent I-C-B-C surpluses from being diverted to cover other government expenses. Attorney General David Eby says the former Liberal government took 1.2-billion dollars in surpluses from the public auto insurer between 2009 and 2016. Eby says the Liberals eroded I-C-B-C’s financial stability and caused higher premiums by treating it like an A-T-M but the new legislation will ensure future surpluses remain with the Crown corporation. He says the N-D-P government’s measures to bring stability to ICBC are forecast to produce surpluses starting this year.
