Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’ll be pushing the country’s premiers to equip their police with body-worn cameras. Trudeau says the cameras document police officers’ interactions with the public, making their use a relatively simple way to address complaints that police in Canada treat racialized people unfairly. Several recent incidents across the country have put a spotlight on police behaviour — including allegations of police brutality from a First Nations chief in Alberta and the shooting death of a 26-year-old Indigenous woman during a wellness check in New Brunswick.
