John Horgan will be back in Victoria on Monday after his New Democrats won a majority in Saturday’s provincial election. The N-D-P are projected to win 55 seats, the Liberals captured 29 and the Greens picked up three seats. Horgan says he’ll begin preparing for a range of challenges, but his first priority will be the COVID-19 pandemic. Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson says he spoke with Horgan on the phone and congratulated him on his win, adding the people of B-C have spoken. Green Leader Sonia Furstenau says she’s proud of what her team was able to accomplish during the campaign, bringing attention to issues such as affordability. New Democrat Ronne-Rae Leonard won re-election in Courtenay-Comox. New Democrat Michele Babchuk is the projected winner in the North Island riding. In the Mid Island-Pacific Rim riding, the N-D-P’s Josie Osborne is the unofficial winner. New Democrat Nic Simmons will be heading back to Victoria after capturing the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding. A reminder the election results are unofficial at this time until the hundreds-of-thousands of mail-in ballots are counted. The final count won’t begin until November 6th.
