One of Canada’s most celebrated Second World War fighter aces, James “Stocky” Edwards of Comox, Vancouver Island, has died at the age of 100. Edwards had 19 confirmed aerial victories during the war, becoming Canada’s most prolific ace in the Western Desert campaign in North Africa. Last June, fighter jets from C-F-B- Comox had performed a fly-by to celebrate the Saskatchewan-born pilot’s 100th birthday. He served more than 30 years with the air force before retiring to Comox, and was inducted into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame in 2013.
