B-C’s restaurant and bar owners are concerned about the livelihood of their businesses after striking members of the B-C General Employees Union set up pickets at liquor distribution outlets. Barry Van Dusen, the owner of the Whistlestop Pub in Courtenay, says the longer the strike continues, the more effect the job action will have on the hospitality sector. Van Dusen says customers have been stocking up on products in the event the strike drags on. Meantime, the BCGEU is imposing an overtime ban for all members except those working for the B-C Wildfire Service. The new job action is aimed at pushing the province to negotiate a new contract after talks broke off.
