Health Canada has approved a new COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna that targets both the original strain of the novel coronavirus and the specific Omicron variant. Health Canada’s chief medical adviser says existing vaccines can be less effective against the currently circulating variants. Dr. Supriya Sharma says the vaccine approved today was designed to target the Omicron B-A-1 subvariant, but it also generates a good immune response against B-A-4 and B-A-5.
