Premier David Eby’s New Democrat government is moving to increase the housing supply across the province and, in legislation introduced today, says it could force municipal governments to meet its targets. But, in bringing in the The Housing Supply Act, Eby and Housing Minister Murray Rankin say it’s unlikely compliance will have to be forced when so many communities need affordable homes. A second piece of legislation — the Building and Strata Statutes Amendment Act — halts most rental restrictions imposed by strata corporations. Eby brought in the bills this morning, saying housing is one of the most critical issues facing B-C residents.
