House construction in the Comox Valley remains robust, even though starts were down in the first 10 months of this year, compared to the same period last year. Market Analyst with CMHC Braden Batch says the Comox Valley has seen a jump in the number of single-family houses. “If you look at the year to date total, single detached homes, we are at 175,” states Batch. “So of that 201, a vast majority, about 87% of the total housing starts we are looking at are single detached. Just to give you some context, you have to go back to 1992 to see that much activity.” The Comox Valley posted 201 starts up to the end of October compared to 258 for the same time frame last year.
